Major Matt Harvey RAMC

Major Matt Harvey was born in Tisbury, Wiltshire on 10 November 1965. He joined the Royal Army Medical Corps as a Private in 1984, beginning a remarkable military career that would span approximately 42 years.

As a Combat Medical Technician, Matt served predominantly alongside Commando (completing the all arms commando course in 1990), Airborne Forces (completing the all arms parachute course in 1992) and Special Forces units, gaining extensive operational experience. His ability, commitment and leadership saw him rise through the ranks to Warrant Officer Class One, including two appointments as Regimental Sergeant Major.

Matt served as the RSM of 225 Fd Ambulance and RSM of 256 Fd Hospital.

In 2006, Matt was commissioned into the Royal Army Medical Corps as a Medical Support Officer. His subsequent appointments included serving as an Operational Medicine Subject Matter Expert at the British Army Training Unit Suffield in Canada and as SO2 Medical at the British Army Training Unit Kenya.

Matt retired from Regular Army service in 2022 after 38 years, but his commitment to the Corps and Defence Medical Services remained undiminished. In 2023, he returned under a Full-Time Reserve Service contract, initially working in CBRN training and subsequently undertaking an SO2 appointment within Defence Medical Services.

From joining as a young Private to serving as a Major, Matt’s career reflected professional excellence, loyalty, determination and an extraordinary commitment to military medicine and the soldiers he supported. He saw active duty on operations in Northern Ireland, Southern Turkey (Op Warden) and Iraq (Op Telic).

Matt leaves behind his wife, Jacky, and their son, Samual, he will be very sadly missed.

Military guests are welcome to wear headdress and medals. It is anticipated that the church will be full, and the funeral service will also be broadcast outside of the church too. Guests are requested to be seated by 1:55pm. Please do not take photos inside of the church.

The RAMC Association Standard Bearers and a Bugler will be in attendance.
